Molybdenum helps prevent pitting and crevice corrosion, while chromium helps resist oxidising environments. Titanium and aluminium are both components of the precipitation hardening reaction, which significantly increases the alloy's hardness and strength.
Corrosion resistance is excellent, and the alloy is resistant to general corrosion, pitting, crevice corrosion, intergranular corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking. It is particularly useful in sour crude oil, natural gas, sulphuric acid, phosphoric acid, and seawater that contain hydrogen sulphide.
